Eid is a time to celebrate and grateful for the gift of food, after a month of abstinence and discipline during Ramzan. It marks the beginning of a sweet year ahead and marks the celebration with generosity and charity.
With only a couple of days left for Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the culmination of the Muslim holy month of Ramzan, all roads in the city are leading to shops, hotels, roadside eateries and the ubiquitou vendors around Charminar, the symbol of Hyderabad and the hub of Eid shopping.
During Ramzan, shopping for Eid in the walled quarter of Hyderabad does not end with the night. Almost all the families buy new clothes, footwear and bangles for the occasion.
The Eid shopping is the climax of unprecedented month-long economic activity.
On the day of Eid, Tens of thousands of Muslims will gather in mosque to perform Eid prayer.
Special Eid Mubarak Namaz is performed by Muslims in mosque (Eidgah).
On Eid, it is customary to wear new clothes and the elders in the family give the children token cash, called 'eidi'. In the photo, Kids are wishing Eid Mubarak!
Eid festivities invariably centre round food. Eid in India translates as sinfully sweet sevaiyan or sheer kurma, badaam phirni, aromatic gosht biryani, haleem, shami kebabs, mutton korma, pasanda and zafrani murgh.
